Don’t Look Back

Nervously entering the waters of death
This liminal space, before fully immersing
Into realms unknown, unbreathed, unlived
I dare not look back

While Ganga beckons and palm trees bow
The cool breeze hovers above
Ripples of my presence, disrupted, dismembered, dis-eased
I dare not look back

Rising tides ebb and flow
With each step I wade further on
Deeper into mysteries unknown, unheard, unfelt
I dare not look back

Standing waist high fingertips rest
Where the sky meets the sea
In a place unseen, untouched, unspoilt
I dare not look back

Washing me clean like fresh fallen snow
I shiver, submitting to angels
That glisten above, unrestrained, unshackled, unburdened
I dare not look back
I dare not look back
I dare not look back

Pleroma

Walking through the labyrinths of my mind
Like a crystal maze, going back in time
Stories create fractals of light
Piercing the retina of my soul
I spent too long trying to be
Someone else’s friend
But now I’m remembering the friend
I left back home who held the keys
To portals where we could be wild and free
She gave me a chance to explore
The universe with fresh eyes
With her the stars shimmer
A golden radiance that could tame
Even the wildest oceans
But through her eyes
I realise I’m one such sea
Crashing endlessly on the black
Sands of volcanic beaches
Crushing myself into a fine powder
Ready to be poured back
Into somebody else’s hourglass

Orphaned

India you have ravished me
You have brought me to nought
Purged me, cleansed me
In the fires of your ghazals
Drifting ecstatically across
The funeral pyres of my heart.

I’ve sat in loneliness long enough
Orphaned from the joys of life
Stealing a grain of your Jaggery
I’ve recovered the sweetness of life
Surrendering to the richness
Of your ancient lands.
